Vice President. Marketing & Sales

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) is the third largest orchestra in Canada, with an annual operating budget of $16 million. Performing more than 150 concerts per year throughout Vancouver, the surrounding communities and the province of British Columbia, the VSO serves over 250,000 patrons annually, including 50,000 children and young adults. Maestro Bramwell Tovey, who has served as Music Director since 2000, will hand over his responsibilities to renowned Dutch conductor Otto Tausk in July 2018.

The Vice President, Marketing & Sales reports directly to the President and is a key member of the senior management team. The Vice President is responsible for all strategic and tactical elements of the marketing and sales efforts of the VSO and the VSO School of Music, including developing and implementing new strategies for revenue and audience growth, creating and executing on an annual marketing plan, and ensuring all marketing and sales objectives are met. The Vice President oversees and directs social media, print, radio, television, and other digital platforms in addition to overseeing direct mail and e-mail campaigns. The Vice President also leads public and media relations, and promotions in support of the strategic goals of the organization. She/he recommends pricing strategies and supervises relationships with consultants in telemarketing, design/branding, ticketing, and client services.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years of leadership experience overseeing traditional and digital marketing programs designed to drive revenue and audience growth. Experience in leading high performing teams, preferably from a progressive organization in the arts and culture sector is preferred. She/he will possess demonstrated strategic planning, entrepreneurial drive, creativity, and team building in addition to excellent writing, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. The ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and demanding environment with a proven track record working with peers, board members, volunteers and representatives of the community is necessary.  Personal knowledge and appreciation of classical music and the fine arts is a prerequisite.
