Program Intern
The Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild has been fortunate to receive funding from the Government of Canada to hire a cultural intern through the Young Canada Works Program. We are accepting applications from recent graduates in the Humanities for a Program Intern. This position is intended to create meaningful first-work experience and the position is 30 hours per week, with flexible hours, for a five-month term position at $16 per hour, commencing October 15, 2019 and ending February 14, 2020.
Eligibility Criteria:
• Be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
• Have completed the school year at the start of employment
• Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
• Willing to commit to the full duration of the internship
• Must not be employed full time in another position
The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting the Program Manager, Program Coordinator and the Indigenous Program Coordinator in developing and coordination programming including:
• Assisting SWG programs and services including the SWG’s annual conference, processing submissions for SWG awards, mentorship programs, and retreats, and supporting professional development workshops, craft talks and readings.
• Assisting in the Indigenous programming and Indigenous Advisory Circle meetings
• Assisting in grant writing, building resource databases, researching organizations with similar mandates, administrative support, database entry/management, and general office duties
• Research/coordination for the 50th Anniversary of the SWG
• Website resource and social media development
Qualifications
• Familiarity with writing programs and events throughout Saskatchewan
• Strong organizational skills
• Experience in organizing meetings/events
• Independent worker and team player
• Education and/or experience in writing and the arts
• Experience in developing cultural programming
• Awareness of First Nations & Métis cultures
• Familiarity with social media (Facebook, Twitter and online forums)
• Experience with research and collection of data
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Working knowledge of basic computer skills and Office suite, including Word, and Excel.
