The Community Radio Fund of Canada (CRFC) is an independent not-for-profit funding organization. Its mandate is to provide support to the more than 170 campus and community radio stations in Canada and to foster a well-resourced, dynamic, and accessible media sector that delivers strong local community broadcasting.
The Executive Director is responsible for leading the CRFC in its work supporting campus and community radio stations. Working with and taking direction from the Board of Directors, this position is responsible for the creation, coordination, and implementation of the fund’s development, communications, stakeholder relations and strategic plans.
In the five years since the CRFC was founded, it has had many successes, including being certified by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) and becoming a recipient of Canadian Content Development funding from commercial radio broadcasters. Because of this work, the CRFC has contributed more than $2.7 million to 94 campus and community radio stations for 211 initiatives. We have also established solid programs and administrative processes, and transparent and accountable governance structures. Now we are looking for someone to leverage this past work to further raise the profile of the fund with external stakeholders, and to bring us to the next level in fundraising.
Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation, maintenance, and future development of the CRFC’s Structural and Operational Plan
- Secure additional funding to support the development of the campus and community radio sector in Canada, as well as the CRFC’s own operations
- Advocate and maintain (or create new) relations with the CRTC, the government, commercial broadcasters and other external stakeholders
- Communicate and work with CRFC Members
- Oversee the CRFC's governance, resources management (financial, material and human) and fulfill other administrative and office duties as well as other related obligations
- Manage and oversee the CRFC's public and media relations, including social media
- Monitor and respond to the activities of the Canadian federal government as it relates to the community radio sector
Qualifications
- A university degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience in public relations, communications, marketing, journalism, political science, public administration, or a related field
- Five or more years of experience working in public affairs, government relations, fund development, as an executive director or any combination thereof
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal, public and media related as well as one on one)
- Superior written and verbal communication skills in French and English (comprehension as well as written and spoken fluency will be tested during the interview process)

- Knowledge and interest in the inner workings of government at all levels
- Knowledge of volunteer-based organisations, the not-for-profit sector, or campus and community radio
- Understanding of the strategic planning and implementation process
- Experience working in collaboration or partnership

Terms and benefits
This is a full-time (40-hour/week) permanent position with a salary range of $65,000 to $75,000, commensurate with skills and experience. Benefits include: comprehensive health and dental plan, employee assistance program and annual RRSP contribution. Estimated start date is Tuesday September 3rd, 2013 or before.
