Reporting to the Executive / Artistic Director, the Managing Director is responsible for managing and controlling the financial and administrative operations, human resources and the overall management and operational activities of the Magnetic North Theatre Festival.
Major areas of responsibility include managing budgets, financial reporting, grant applications, hiring and supervising staff, office management systems and coordination of Festival box office. Other responsibilities include negotiation and preparation of artists and venue contracts. The ideal incumbent has the ability to transfer from strategic planning to execution seamlessly and is capable of managing multiple projects while respecting tight deadlines.
Required Qualifications
- Post secondary degree or diploma with a minimum of five (5) years of related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience);
- Previous experience in a performing arts environment (music, theatre, dance, visual arts);
- Ability to manage budgets, cash flow and financial reporting;
- Experienced grant writer and proven relationships with funders;
- Experience hiring, training, leading and motivating a team;
- Experience coordinating box office;
- Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, QuickBooks, Outlook, and other web-based systems;
- Ability to organize and maintain a comprehensive filing system;
- Highly organized and able to prioritize and multi-task;
- A strong degree of professionalism, tact and diplomacy;
- Ability to adapt quickly to a fast-paced and highly charged creative environment.
