Sound Technician

Duties

Reporting to the Coordinator of Backstage Services, you will:

  • Plan, establish and maintain the safe and efficient installation of all sound elements for productions in accordance with the Director and Designer's vision
  • Take the lead in coordination of all the sound elements and equipment as needed to run the performances and rehearsals
  • Program and cue speakers, microphones, recording equipment, television and live feeds
  • Maintain and keep organized all sound equipment, tools, supplies and programs for sound and digital boxes/equipment
  • Adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety Administration regulations and Town policies and procedures in order to maintain a safe work environment for staff
  • Maintain daily, weekly and long term inspection and maintenance schedules
  • Ensure the stage, backstage, and shop areas applicable to the sound equipment are kept clean and organized
  • Establish emergency contingency procedures for show systems with Stage Management and all of the technical team and ensure all are trained and familiar with these procedures
  • Advise all departments on matters of safety
  • Participate in special projects/events as required
  • Coordinate with other departments onstage as needed to run the performances & rehearsals.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

  • A Diploma in a related field
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in theatrical sound programming and design installation  
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar position on large scale productions
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification
  • Experience operating a scissor lift including the knowledge and implementation of safety procedures
  • Ability to program and run analogue and digital sound consoles  
  • Knowledge and experience in maintenance of all sound equipment  
  • Experience in stage management  
  • Experience with wireless, Lav's, monitors, wiring live feeds, sound for orchestras, acoustics, shotgun and sound for large musicals as well as straight plays and for television and radio broadcast

  • Knowledge of MS Office: Word and Excel
  • Internet research abilities will be an asset
  • This position is a member of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (C.U.P.E).
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule, days, evenings, weekends and public holidays, is a requirement of this position.  In addition, you may be required to meet the requirements of "standby" in accordance with the provisions of the CUPE Local 905 Collective Agreement.

The hourly rate for this position is $27.77
