The Ottawa Art Gallery is looking for a passionate, friendly and responsive individual as their ART Rental and Sales and Visitor Services Manager. Reporting to the Director and Collections Manager, this position includes managing the ART Rental and Sales department as well as the OAG Shop (located within the ART Rental and Sales space) and be the primary Visitor Services Officer. The position is a temporary, 9 month contract from 30 September 2013 – 7 July 2014.
Salary: $17 per hour
Hours: 25 – 30 hours per week
Responsibilities
ART Rental and Sales:
- Securing new clients and artists for the Art Rental & Sales(AR&S) Program as well as the OAG Shop;
- Building artist and client relationships;
- Execution of programming related to AR&S space such as artist talks and exhibitions;
- Maintaining and developing AR&S as a visitor destination and a revenue generator;
- Prepare reports regarding financial transactions and the collection inventory on a regular basis;
- Prepare information on AR&S programs for OAG's Marketing and Communications Coordinator;
- Execution of OAG merchandise relating to the OAG Shop;
- Maintaining files as well as the website and art databases.
Visitors Services:
- Monitor galleries to ensure safety of visitors and art works;
- Open and close galleries and turn on/off media equipment as required;
- Check for non-functioning lights and equipment;
- Responsible for donations box
- Welcome members of the public to The Ottawa Art Gallery;
- Respond to enquiries about Gallery programs, services and exhibitions;
- Maintain statistical information regarding Gallery visitors.
Qualifications:
- Received a post-secondary degree or equivalent in visual arts, arts administration and/or museum studies;
- Retail and Sales experience
- Have at least 2 years experience working at either a non-profit, commercial art gallery;
- Can work independently with little supervision;
- Enjoys working with the public;
- Contains a knowledge and passion for local, contemporary art;
- Expertise in art handling and installation techniques;
- Strong administrator with excellent computer, oral and written communication skills;
- Bilingualism is an asset.
