Term position to May 31, 2022 – Department of Culture and Heritage

This is an exciting opportunity to ensure that Government of Nunavut (GN) collections are kept safe, well preserved and properly documented.

Reporting to the Manager, Heritage Collections, you will provide support to the GN collections team at the Canadian Museum of Nature Collections and Research Facility, including registration services and ensuring overall safety, preservation, maintenance and documentation. As Registrar/Assistant Curator, you’ll ensure that the collections are properly documented and accessible to staff and stakeholders, and conduct curatorial work as part of the collections team, including collections processing, preparation of objects for storage, cataloging and data checking.

This position is temporarily located in Gatineau, QC, until such time that adequate heritage infrastructure is built in Nunavut to store the Government of Nunavut (GN) collection. When a Nunavut-based heritage facility is built, the position will be recalled back to Nunavut and located within the new facility.

Your impressive profile as a qualified Registrar / Assistant Curator will include the following highlights:

  • A diploma in Collections Management or a related field.
  • One (1) year of related experience working in collections management, or exhibits at a museum.
  • Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.‎‎

ASSETS:

  • Fluency in two or more of the Official Languages of Nunavut (Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French).
  • Knowledge of the Inuit language, communities, culture and land, and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit.

NOTE:

  • This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.

Compensation & benefits: This position is included in the Nunavut Employees Union and offers a starting salary of $81,861 per annum (for 37.5 hours/week). Note: Subsidized staff housing is not available.
