Program Officer

Job Title:         Program Officer, New Brunswick Arts Board (artsnb)
Terms:             Annual (renewable) contract, subject to an initial three-month probation period and annual performance evaluations
Salary:            $54,591 to $72,061, depending on experience, plus competitive benefits
Bilingual:        Excellent oral, written, and comprehension capacities in English and French
Location:         Some remote work may be necessary while COVID restrictions are in place; but an ability to work out of the Fredericton office will be required once restrictions are lifted

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree;
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in arts administration or a related capacity.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Program Officer will:

  • Provide accurate information to artists and arts organizations applying for grant funding;
  • Participate in the development of programs and special projects and effectively communicate their contents to the artistic community;
  • Provide support and assistance in English or French to grant applicants;
  • Assess the eligibility of applicants and all documents accompanying grant applications;
  • Organize and oversee the smooth running of peer juries according to established procedures—jury meetings are mostly conducted online via videoconference (Zoom);
  • Keep accurate notes on deliberations and decisions made ​​by jurors;
  • Communicate by telephone to candidates who request feedback on assessment from juries and maintain confidentiality;
  • Prepare all necessary documentation for evaluation by the jury and provide applicants with the results of the competition within the prescribed time (which includes the management of all files, correspondence and related maintenance of program files);
  • Maintain accurate statistics of competitions and communicate results to the Executive Director for Board review;
  • Assist in preparing press releases announcing the results of competitions;
  • Prepare information about grant recipients and a list of jurors for artsnb’s annual report;
  • Keep the Executive Director informed of issues or concerns that arise in relation to the programs and jury processes;
  • Keep an up-to-date tally of expenditures related to programs and juries;
  • Participate actively in the activities of the Programs and Juries Committee (Board level).

Related tasks:

  • Upon request, participate in committee meetings, conduct research, prepare accurate reports, and perform all duties assigned by the Executive Director;
  • Contribute to the Annual Report (statistics related to programs and juries, results of competitions and annual summary);
  • Develop workshops on grant programs, application process, etc., and make presentations to clients and stakeholders;
  • The position may require occasional travel within New Brunswick, so a valid driver’s license would be an asset.

Required Qualifications:

  • An ability and comfort working independently and in a tightly integrated team;
  • Outstanding time management skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills;
  • Data analysis, budget management, and reporting capabilities (Microsoft Excel);
  • A facility with online technology and virtual communication tools (Zoom);
  • Strong writing and program development skills.
