Head of Wardrobe

Summary of Duties
As a key member of the GCTC team, the Head of Wardrobe is responsible for costing, sourcing, buying, interpreting and actualizing wardrobe designs of GCTC designers. The person selected for the role of Head of Wardrobe position must be comfortable interacting with a wide range of artists, be able to work in close work conditions and have a positive attitude.
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Head of Wardrobe is responsible for:
- Purchasing, borrowing, renting and building all wardrobe items in consultation with GCTC designers and directors, within budgets provided by the Production Manager;
- Preparing preliminary wardrobe lists;
- Booking and running all fittings;
- Tracking all show related wardrobe expenses;
- Trouble-shooting, repairing and replacing items during the run of show in a timely manner;
- All wardrobe resets during run of show;
- All wardrobe returns post-show;
- Maintenance of current wardrobe inventory;
- All related paperwork (budget tracking, wardrobe reset lists, etc.);
- Liaison with all other production and administrations staff as required;
- Timesheet and labour tracking within the wardrobe department;
- Attend production and staff meetings as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of five (5) years of related experience (or an equivalent combination of education & experience);
- Strong communication skills with a high degree of professionalism and tact;
- Must be able to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times;
- Ability to organize and coordinate a variety of projects and activities simultaneously;
- Ability to evaluate and manage priorities;
- Computer skills including Word and Excel, Web-based e-mail and Internet;
- Extensive knowledge of Ottawa based costume resources;
- Confidence with industrial sewing machines and irons, and ability to instruct crew in those areas;
- Working knowledge of contemporary clothes and period costumes and the ability to build, alter and repair garments;
- Must have a valid driver’s licence;
- Must be (or be willing to become) a member in good standing of IATSE Local 471;
- Demonstrated skill and experience in the following will be an asset, willingness to acquire skills in the following will be a requirement: props building, carpentry, LX hangs & focuses, set-ups & strikes;
- Up to date First Aid training and certificate an asset;
- Knowledge of GCTC and an understanding of the role it plays in the community are assets.
