Digital Imaging Assistant

In this role, you will be responsible for providing assistance with scanning, digitization and cataloguing of the Ryerson Image Centre’s (RIC) Photography Collection. This includes:the RIC's fine art photography collection, the Black Star Collection, and the artist archives of Berenice Abbott, Wendy Snyder MacNeil, Jo Spence, and Werner Wolff.

Is this the right role for you? 

  • Have you completed a post-secondary degree program in Fine arts or a related field, with an emphasis on photography, digital media or graphic arts?
  • Do you have at least one year of relevant experience in digital image management in a fine art library or archives setting?
  • Are you able to demonstrate your knowledge on the history of fine art photography and other art media, museum standard print handling and preservation issues?
  • Do you have a comprehensive understanding of PC & MAC platforms, Adobe Creative Suite, various scanning programs, photo management software and databases?

  1. Tell us about a specific collection that you have prepared print ready digital images for, in order to have those images used in exhibition catalogues, books or other publications.
  2. Cataloguing of assets is very important to this role. In a short paragraph, please explain how you would identify a photograph's primary characteristics (date, maker, medium etc).  Please include what characteristics you have added and what resources you have used.
  3. Capturing images for special projects is a main responsibility within this position. Tell us, specifically, about a time where you received a request to capture images for a client, what was your process, what was the outcome, what feedback did you receive from the client?
