RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports operations and administration of the Wakefield Centre Board by advising and informing the Board and interfacing between the Board and the staff

  • Recommends annual budget for Board approval and ensures prudent management of Wakefield Centre’s resources within the approved budget
  • Supervises and provides leadership to all employees of the Centre and implements the human resource policies and procedures as outlined in the Human Resources Manual
  • Responsible for developing, implementing and assessing annual work plans in coordination with responsible Board committees Develops partnerships, services and events to support Wakefield Centre’s community development

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Education
Successful completion of post-secondary education with a relevant diploma or degree or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience in the field of recreation, administration, education or related disciplines

Language
Working knowledge of the English and French languages is mandatory

Quelles seront mes activités principales?

Le directeur ou la directrice des opérations de production doit collaborer avec le directeur de production à la gestion globale de toute activité de son département qui n’est pas liée à la prestation comme telle.

Responsable de l’entretien de toutes les installations scéniques et de production du CNA, le ou la titulaire du poste doit identifier les lacunes techniques par rapport aux exigences fonctionnelles, gérer la maintenance des équipements, les mises à jour et les remplacements ainsi que maintenir une stratégie de soutien pour l’équipement technique et les systèmes du Centre. Il ou elle doit administrer l’horaire de l’équipe de scène, prendre part à des activités fonctionnelles transversales, gérer le service de paie hebdomadaire et agir en tant qu’agent principal de liaison entre le département et le syndicat des employés, le chapitre 471 de l’IATSE.

Le directeur ou la directrice des opérations de production relève du président et chef de la direction du CNA.

Quelles sont les compétences requises?

  • Diplôme universitaire dans une discipline connexe ;

What will be my key activities?

Partnering with the Production Director, the Director of Production Operations will be responsible for the overall management of all non-performance related aspects of the department.  This includes overseeing the regular maintenance of all of the Centre’s performance venues and production facilities, identifying technical deficiencies in functional requirements, managing equipment maintenance, upgrading and replacement, and maintain a support strategy for the Centre’s technical equipment and systems. This position will share responsibility with the Production Director for the operations and functional capacity of the department,

Additional components of this position include managing stage crew scheduling, taking part in project based cross functional activities, overseeing the weekly payroll and acting as the principal liaison with the union, IATSE Local 471.

This position reports to the President & CEO of the NAC.

What are the required qualifications?

  • University/College degree in a related discipline;
  • Solid experience in budget management (development and control);
  • Minimum of eight years of experience in a related management position;
  • Thorough knowledge of current theatrical practices, processes and equipment;
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and deliver multiple concurrent projects within schedule and financial constraints;
  • In-depth knowledge of the use of computers and software in the performing arts, as well as a fundamental working knowledge of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD;
  • Superior decision making and organizational skills that support the tasks at hand
  • Demonstrated initiative and sound judgment;
  • Complete familiarity with all applicable codes, regulations and legislative requirements;
  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety codes and theatrical best practices;
  • Bilingualism in both official languages is preferred.

The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra is an ensemble with adventurous programming that reflects the diversity of the communities it serves, and has been an anchor in Edmonton’s music community for over six decades. Our Educational Outreach team is seeking multiple qualified, dedicated Teaching Artists (Cello/Bass, Part-time) to join us in the YONA-Sistema program, which enacts social change through music education for Edmonton’s underserved youth.

 

We are looking for more than experienced string players committed to teaching. We need Teaching Artists with patience, compassion, and energy to teach every day after school until early evening. You will provide beginning strings (violin, viola, cello, and/or bass) and general music instruction (including musicianship, classroom percussion, and choral instruction) to a sectional group of up to 12 children, and work with a team of colleagues to lead larger ensemble sessions as well. You will also assist students with academic work and lead active games during break times.

 

Your qualifications include a post-secondary degree (preferably in music, education, or a related field) and a minimum of 2 years in a teaching or child-care setting. Experience teaching string instruments to children or working with groups of children is an asset. You are imaginative and flexible. You are an excellent communicator who is comfortable talking to children, parents, teachers, public officials, and the media. Since this program is aimed at supporting underserved youth, familiarity with outreach programs and social work philosophies is an asset. Successful candidates are positive, open-minded, empathetic, non-judgmental and committed to building strong communities. Summary of Duties
 
As a key member of the GCTC team, the Head of Wardrobe is responsible for costing, sourcing, buying, interpreting and actualizing wardrobe designs of GCTC designers. The person selected for the role of Head of Wardrobe position must be comfortable interacting with a wide range of artists, be able to work in close work conditions and have a positive attitude.
 
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Head of Wardrobe is responsible for:

  • Purchasing, borrowing, renting and building all wardrobe items in consultation with GCTC designers and directors, within budgets provided by the Production Manager;
  • Preparing preliminary wardrobe lists;
  • Booking and running all fittings;
  • Tracking all show related wardrobe expenses;
  • Trouble-shooting, repairing and replacing items during the run of show in a timely manner;
  • All wardrobe resets during run of show;
  • All wardrobe returns post-show;
  • Maintenance of current wardrobe inventory;
  • All related paperwork (budget tracking, wardrobe reset lists, etc.);
  • Liaison with all other production and administrations staff as required;
  • Timesheet and labour tracking within the wardrobe department;
  • Attend production and staff meetings as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of five (5) years of related experience (or an equivalent combination of education & experience);
  • Strong communication skills with a high degree of professionalism and tact;
  • Must be able to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times;
  • Ability to organize and coordinate a variety of projects and activities simultaneously;
  • Ability to evaluate and manage priorities;
  • Computer skills including Word and Excel, Web-based e-mail and Internet;
  • Extensive knowledge of Ottawa based costume resources;
  • Confidence with industrial sewing machines and irons, and ability to instruct crew in those areas;
  • Working knowledge of contemporary clothes and period costumes and the ability to build, alter and repair garments;
  • Must have a valid driver’s licence;
  • Must be (or be willing to become) a member in good standing of IATSE Local 471;
  • Demonstrated skill and experience in the following will be an asset, willingness to acquire skills in the following will be a requirement: props building, carpentry, LX hangs & focuses, set-ups & strikes;

  • Knowledge of GCTC and an understanding of the role it plays in the community are assets.

The City is seeking a dynamic individual to assume to role of Arts Programmer.  The incumbent will support the planning, development, scheduling, coordination and implementation of Arts programs in the Anvil studio spaces and community venues in the City.

Based in the Anvil Centre, the Arts Programmer works within a community engagement framework to facilitate or develop arts programs, initiatives, workshops and events with arts organizations, not-for-profits, businesses and artists on behalf of the City of New Westminster.  The work involves supervising program staff and volunteers; establishing and maintaining liaison with a variety of internal and external contacts; promoting and publicizing interest and participation in program activities; and assisting in the preparation and monitoring of program budgets. 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduation from a community college in a specialized discipline relevant to the arts, plus sound related arts programming experience including supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the employer may be considered.
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of programming in arts community spaces and in the community.
  • Ability plan, develop, schedule, promote, coordinate, implement and evaluate arts programs.
  • Ability to present ideas and viewpoints effectively both orally and in writing.

The Theatre Production program is situated within the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications (FFAC) of MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta and is an integral part of the city’s vibrant arts community. FFAC students benefit from the rich cultural environment in the city of Edmonton and its reputation as one of the liveliest arts communities in the country. The University anticipates the opening of a new downtown building to house FFAC programs within the next three years.

The Theatre Production program works collaboratively with MacEwan’s musical theatre training program. The focus of the two-year diploma program is on preparing students for entry level positions as technicians for the professional performing arts and entertainment industries. Courses include lighting, sound, wardrobe, carpentry, set painting, properties, video and projection technology, and stage and production management. Typically students would expect to spend approximately half of their time working on in-house productions.

The MacEwan Theatre Production program has been educating well-respected technicians for more than thirty years. As part of MacEwan’s continuing evolution as a university, internal and external degree completion options for Theatre Production students are being investigated. The program has one continuing faculty position, eight sessional faculty and approximately forty students.

Responsibilities

This individual is responsible for teaching in the program and managing the theatre season as well as the overall administration, planning and delivery of the program. Duties include supervision of faculty, student recruitment and retention, budget oversight and curriculum development. He/she must be up to the challenge of maintaining a balanced learning environment while under the pressure of real time production. Apart from administrative duties, responsibilities will include teaching a number of courses, supervising student practicums and overseeing production processes. The theatre season has included 2-3 full-scale musicals and a number of smaller performances. Nurturing the strong relationship with Theatre Arts faculty and students is a key responsibility.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a graduate degree in a related discipline, extensive professional experience in production, and a good understanding of the challenges involved in the education of theatre production and entertainment technologies professionals. Consideration may be given to individuals with an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

Building on the program’s current mission and vision, the candidate must be able to articulate a clear vision for transitioning the curriculum to the baccalaureate level and possess the curricular expertise to implement degree completion options for students. Additionally, the candidate will be required to establish and maintain the confidence and respect of faculty, students, staff, alumni and the professional communities.

The successful candidate should also have teaching experience at the post-secondary level and strong administrative, interpersonal and management skills.

Resident Dance Trainer

Job Description:

The Resident Dance Trainer will be required to:

  • teach dance technique for the company as the central focus of our annual training programming, which will include The August Intensive and Daily Technique Class, both of which are open to dancers of the professional community;
  • teach dance technique for clients of our company who hire our dance instruction services; and
  • provide expertise to our ensemble of elite professional dancers in the areas of functional anatomy and motor control, supervising their individual physical training regimens with a view to injury prevention.

Requirements:

The Resident Dance Trainer will have:

  • a minimum of 5-10 years experience as an instructor of dance technique working with professional, practicing dancers as well as with dance students;
  • international experience, both as a professional dancer and as a dance instructor; and
  • extensive training in functional anatomy and motor control, with specific application to professional dancers and contemporary dance practice.

Remuneration:

$62,400 per annum
