The Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour is seeking a creative leader to join the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design as College Director working in Fredericton.

As a member of the College Management Team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of programs in fine craft and design media and contribute to New Brunswick’s cultural social and economic development. For over 70 years, the College has offered post-secondary certificates and diplomas with studio majors such as Aboriginal Visual Arts, Ceramics, Graphic Design, Integrated Media, Fashion Design, Fibre Arts, Jewellery/Metal Arts, Photography and Textile Design with particular emphasis on the Development of entrepreneurial, technical, aesthetic and creative skills.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership, planning, organizing and directing of all phases of the operations of the College, as well as the administration and delivery of all educational programs and services within the College’s mandate. This includes a strong commitment to: serving the needs of students and staff; promoting the highest standards of academic excellence and a superior learning environment; building effective relationships with external stakeholders; developing a collaborative and consultative approach in setting and achieving priorities; and providing related policy and program expertise and direction. The new Director will be responsible for shaping the future direction and the future vision for the College.

The successful candidate will report to the Assistant Deputy Minister for Post-Secondary Education. As such, the director will participate in discussions and help shape policy and direction relating to New Brunswick’s post-secondary education sector. This individual will benefit from the advice and counsel of an Advisory Committee, which includes representatives of the arts, business and community.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: University degree in Education, Business Administration or related field and a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible management experience including strategic planning in an organisational environment.

Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates with management experience in a post-secondary environment. Preference may also be given to candidates with experience related to the fields of the arts, craft and design. Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate in their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES: The successful candidate will possess the following technical competencies: knowledge of group facilitation techniques and knowledge of conflict management practices.

Salary: $88,556 to $99,710 per annum.

Festival Administrator

Leading up to, and during, the Indian Summer Festival in July 2013, this contract position is for a 4-month period (April 1- July 26) comprising a 30-hour work week.

Responsibilities will include:
- Managing and maintaining festival database (Zoho)
- managing sponsorship packages and requests
- Coordinating ticket and membership requests
- Liaising with publicists and festival managing director
- Website ongoing maintenance (Wordpress)
- Social media content developing, creating, monitoring and posting (Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Flickr)
- Creation/dissemination of regular e-newsletter (Mailchimp)
- performer coordination and services
- some event management
- daily bookkeeping (working with festival accountant and managing direction)

Candidates must possess the following skills:
- Exceptional organisational skills and strong multi-tasking skills a MUST, including project management experience
- Detail oriented a MUST
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to work under pressure in a fast paced environment
- Must be very web savvy
- Strong Microsoft Office skills 
- Basic understanding of HTML.

  •  Assembling and preparing files to meet pre-press and print requirements and deadlines

Candidates must possess the following skills:

  • Exceptional organisational skills and strong multi-tasking skills a MUST, including project management experience
  • Detail oriented a MUST
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work under pressure in a fast paced environment
  • Must be able to work with company branding requirements and templates
  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and mostly In Design)

Assistant Costume Designer

Responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Working with the Costume Designer to design, create and purchase costumes and accessories for the production.
  • Liaising with the director and Costume Designer about creative concepts, establishing the look and feel of the production and its characters, deciding what each character wishes to convey through his/her clothing (time period, setting, status/social class, age, geographic region, etc.
  • Sketching designs by hand and sometimes using computer programs such as Photoshop or computer-aided design (CAD).
  • Arranging costume fittings, taking actors' measurements for garments and accessories, such as wigs, shoes and hats.
  • Shopping at fabric, craft, charity, and clothes shops.
